- Dr Sibinga was medical director of the Regional Blood Bank Noord Nederland (1976-2001) which he created and extended into a well respected international centre of excellence. The centre was assigned the status of WHO Collaborating Centre for Blood Transfusion (1993), WFH International Hemophilia Training Centre (1993) and ICBS Collaborating Centre (2001) and hosted numerous international fellows for training.

Dr Sibinga became a Fellow of transfusion medicine at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (1992) and Royal College of Pathologists London (1995). He has been the initiator and organiser of 28 consecutive and internationally reputed and respected Symposia on Blood Transfusion in Groningen. He published over 200 peer reviewed articles and book chapters on hemostasis and transfusion medicine and edited over 30 books in his field.
