Research interests:
Dr Warner's clinical research interests centre on perioperative lung health. Current projects include investigations of risk factors for and methods to prevent perioperative pulmonary complications. He is particularly interested in methods which assist cigarette smokers undergoing surgery to quit tobacco.

Dr Warner is editor of the journal 'Anesthesiology', is an editorial board member of the Journal of Applied Physiology and an associate examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He has authored over 120 original articles and 12 book chapters.

David Warner is a Section Head for Airway/Respiratory Physiology, part of the ANESTHESIOLOGY & PAIN MANAGEMENT Faculty. The role of a Section Head is to work with their Co-Section Head(s) to divide the Section (sub-specialty area) into its component areas of research, nominate leaders in those areas as Faculty Members, and offer ongoing oversight of the content within their Section. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.
