Hartmut Lode is Head of the Pneumology I (Infectiology and Immunology) Department at Zehlendorf Hospital, Berlin. He also heads the Research Center for Medical Studies (RCMS) there. He is Chief of the Department of Chest and Infectious Diseases at City Hospital Berlin-Zehlendorf (the affiliated teaching hospital to the Freie Universität Berlin).

His research interests focus on lower respiratory infections, the prevention of infectious diseases, antibiotic therapy and immunological disorders and infections.

He is President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Society for Chemotherapy, Member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, past President of the 9th ECCMMID and Berlin Vice Chairman of the Approval Commission of the German Institute for Drugs (BFARM).

Hartmut Lode is a Section Head for Respiratory Infections, part of the RESPIRATORY DISORDERS Faculty. The role of a Section Head is to work with their Co-Section Head(s) to divide the Section (sub-specialty area) into its component areas of research, nominate leaders in those areas as Faculty Members, and offer ongoing oversight of the content within their Section. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.
