Research interests:
His major scientific achievements include pioneer clinical studies with biotechnology-derived products in kidney transplant recipients, identification of new mechanisms underlying rejection and tolerance to allografts, characterization of a key molecular defect in the neonatal system of human newborns, and discovery of a new immunosuppressive drug targeting calcium channels in T lymphocytes.
Current projects include;
- Immunobiology of the dentritic cells: To identify the factors controlling the various functions of the dendritic cells.
- Experimental transplantation: Development of strategies of induction of tolerance to the allogreffes.
- Immunity of the mucous membranes in the AIDS: Analyze by ELISPOT of the production of the cytokines by the intestinal lymphocytes at the patient infected by virus HIV.
- Biocompatibility of the membranes of dialysis: Study of the mechanisms of the inflammatory reactions induced by the membranes of dialysis.
- Cytokines in Immunopathologie human and experimental: Studies on the implications of the cytokines in the pathogenesis and the processing of human and experimental inflammatory diseases

Michel Goldman is the coordinator of an Integrated Project on Transplantation Tolerance ("RISET") recently launched by the European Commission. He is member of the Executive Committee of the "European Journal of Immunology" and serves in the editorial boards of "Transplantation" and "Clinical Experimental Immunology".
Michel Goldman received in 2000 the Joseph Maisin Prize, a major award for clinical sciences delivered by the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique (Belgium). He held the Spinoza chair at the University of Amsterdam in 2001 and was the President of the Sixth International Conference on New Trends in Clinical and Experimental Immunosuppression in Geneva in February 2002.
