Thomas Dougherty

Thomas J. Dougherty received his B.Sc. in Microbiology with honors in 1973 from The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (formerly the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science). In 1978, he obtained his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, Pa.). He then joined the laboratory of Alexander Tomasz at the Rockefeller University (New York, NY) as a postdoctoral fellow, and was subsequently promoted to Assistant Professor. While at Rockefeller University, he conducted studies on the biochemistry and genetics of penicillin resistance in pathogenic bacteria. From 1986-2001, he was in the Dept. of Microbiology at Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., working on various early and late stage antibiotic programs. In 2001, he joined Pfizer, Inc., and is currently a Research Fellow in the Antibacterial Dept. at Groton, CT.
Dr. Dougherty has published over 50 research articles and reviews to date.
