Luca Persani is Associate Professor in Endocrinology at the Institute of Endocrine Sciences, School of Medicine of the University of Milan. He heads the Laboratory for Endocrinological Research of IRCCS Istituto Auxologico Italiano.

His research interests focus on the identification and characterization of the biological mechanisms and genes relevant for the development and function of the thyroid gland and the gonads. Particular interest is devoted to the identification and characterization of genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of the diseases of thyroid and gonadal axes; the structural and functional characterization of the network of molecular interactions involved in signal transduction processes relevant for thyroid cell function and proliferation; structure-function studies of glycoprotein hormone receptors (GPHRs); factors regulating the biological potency of glycoprotein hormone molecules; and identification of novel markers for diagnosis and follow-up of thyroid and gonadal diseases.
