Ph.D. in Biophysics 1989 Harvard University. Internship in Internal Medicine 1989-90 Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, MA. Residency in Anesthesiology 1990-93 Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neurobiology 1993-4 in the lab of Prof. Gary Yellen, Harvard Medical School. American Board of Anesthesiology Certification 1994. Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research Starter Grant 1993. The Medical Foundation/Charles King Trust Fellowship Award 1995. Scientist Development K21 Award (NIH/NIAAA) 1996-2001. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers 2003.
Research interests: Molecular and neurobiological mechanisms of anesthesia, with a focus on the molecular mechanism of anesthetic modulation at nicotinic ACh and GABA-A receptors. Artificial Synapses: combined patch-clamp electrophysiology with ultra-fast concentration-jump. Kinetic modeling of ion channel functions. Awareness During General Anesthesia.
Current Research Funding: NIH R01GM66724 and P01GM58448.
