Satish Keshav
Gastroenterology, John Radcliffe Hospital, United Kingdom
Research Interests/Other information
Dr Satish Keshav is a specialist physician and gastroenterologist with experience in luminal gastroenterology, hepatology, and liver transplantation. Provides specialist care for IBD at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and runs a busy multi-disciplinary clinic with consultant colleagues, specialist registrars, clinical training and research fellows, and specialist nurses. He provides specialist support for patients at the Lysosomal Storage Disorders Unit at the Royal Free Hospital, which is funded by the National Commissioning Group (NCG).
Dr Keshav's research encompasses laboratory-based investigation of gastrointestinal aspects of immunity and inflammation that is performed in collaboration with colleagues locally, nationally, and internationally, and extends to clinical studies and trials. Thus the research is wide-ranging and translational, aiming to use clinical investigation to understand basic mechanisms, and to take this knowledge into clinical practice. His main interest is in understanding the mechanisms of organ-specific immunity and inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, and particularly in determining the role of specialised epithelial cells, which maintain host defence and mediate between extrinsic micro-organisms and the innate and adaptive immune systems.
