Research interests:
Our Neuroimmunology Research Laboratory investigates molecular and cellular mechanisms of central nervous system infections caused by viruses (HIV-1, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, West Nile virus) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis with the aim of translating discoveries into improved treatment and prevention of these infections. Of particular interest to us is the role of microglial cells in the defence of and damage to the brain and how substances of abuse (opiates, cocaine, and cannabinoids) may modify these processes.
