Melvin Cheitlin is Emeritus Professor of Medicine at UCSF since 1997.

His research interests include cardiovascular involvement in AIDS, valvular heart disease, and severe tricuspid regurgitation

Throughout his career, Professor Cheitlin has received many awards for hs outstanding achievements. He was, for example, awarded the title "Master of the American College of Cardiology" (MACC) in 1998 and Distinguished Fellow of the Society of Geriatric Cardiology. In 1999, he received the Special Recognition Award by the Laennec Society of the AHA Council on Clinical Cardiology. And in 2004, he received the Cardiology Faculty Special Award by Division of Cardiology at UCSF.
