Dr. McKhann's current research is directed towards:
- the mechanisms of Guillain-Barre' syndrome and the neurological and cognitive outcomes after coronary artery bypass heart surgery
- the role of astrocytes in the development and maintenance of epilepsy
- interactions between astrocytes, neurons, and extracellular space
- brain organization and reorganization of language and sensorimotor function

Dr. McKhann has authored 10 books on such topics as childhood neuropathies, Guillain-Barre' syndrome, other diseases of the nervous system, and the neurology of language, more than 130 scientific papers, and 40 book chapters.
He is a scientific advisor to the Charles A. Dana Foundation and an executive committee member of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives.

Guy McKhann is a Head of Faculty for the NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS Faculty. The role of a Head of Faculty is to help divide the Faculty (specialty) into Sections (sub-specialty areas), nominate leaders in those areas as Section Heads, and offer ongoing advice on the strategic direction of the service. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.Links
