Research interests:
Dr. Hricak's primary field of research is cross-sectional, anatomic and molecular imaging of the genitourinary tract, with particular emphasis on oncologic imaging. She has consistently been a leader in applying new imaging modalities to genitourinary diseases. Among the imaging applications she has pioneered are: the use of MR and CT for gynecological cancer, the application of MRI and MR spectroscopy to prostate cancer, the use of ultrasound to study medical renal disease, the use of molecular imaging in the early detection of prostate cancer and bone metastases, and the application of PET/CT in ovarian and prostate cancer.

Dr Hricak is a member of the Institute of Medicine. She also serves on the National Cancer Institute's Board of Scientific Advisors and on the Board of Directors of the Radiological Society of North America. She am currently the director of an NIH-funded research study on risk assessment for prostate cancer patients using MRI and MR spectroscopy.
She received the Marie Curie Award from the Society of Women in Radiology in 2002 and the gold medal from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine in 2003. She is an honorary member of the German Radiological Society, the British Institute of Radiology, and the Croatian Academy of Science and Art, and an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Medicine. She holds an honorary doctorate from the Ludwig Maximilan University of Munich, Germany. In 2002, she was elected a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Dr. Hricak is a fellow of the American College of Radiology, the International Soc. for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, and the Soc. of Uroradiology.
