Research interests: Functions of the classical and nonclassical HLA class I molecules during pregnancy. Role of soluble and membrane-bound HLA-G isoforms in human embryonic implantation, pregnancy outcome, and placental development (immunological and angiogenic functions). Phenotypical and functional analysis of human decidual NK cells in normal pregnancies and recurrent spontaneous abortion.
The laboratory uses a number of techniques to address these questions, including multicolor flow cytometry and cell sorting, confocal microscopy, laser micro dissection, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, chemioluminescence, CBA cytokine measurement, RT-PCR, DNA sequencing, cellular and bacterial transfections, production of recombinant proteins, murine in vivo models.
