Research interests:
Dr. Mulhall is involved in the study of the cellular mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of Peyronie's disease and the impact of cavernous nerve injury on corpus cavernosal smooth muscle integrity and function. His clinical research interests include postoperative preservation of erectile function following radical pelvic surgery, erectile dysfunction as a harbinger of coronary artery disease, and androgen supplementation in males and females with sexual dysfunction.

Dr Mulhall is editor-in-chief of the review journal Current Sexual Health Reports and on the editorial board: Journal of Urology & the Journal of Sexual Medicine; he is reviewer for many other journals. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Sexual Medicine Society, North America. On the standards committee of the International Soc. for Sexual Medicine he is Co-Chairman of the subcommittee on Standards in the Surgical Management Of Male Sexual Dysfunction.

Awards received by Dr Mulhall include the Career Development Award, the Veterans Admin. (1998), Young Investigator Award (2000), Robert P. Nelson Award, the Sexual Medicine Soc. of North America (2001), Jean Francois Ginestie Award (2002) and the Gold Cystoscope Award, the American Urological Assoc. (2005).

John Mulhall is a Section Head for Male Sexual Dysfunction, part of the UROLOGY Faculty. The role of a Section Head is to work with their Co-Section Head(s) to divide the Section (sub-specialty area) into its component areas of research, nominate leaders in those areas as Faculty Members, and offer ongoing oversight of the content within their Section. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.
