Research interests:
Professor Neal specializes in the surgical management of urological cancer. He has particular expertise in the management of advanced bladder cancer and prostate cancer and offers various types of bladder reconstruction after cystectomy. He also offers retroperitoneal surgery for advanced testis cancer and renal cell cancer. His research spans clinical, translational and basic research. He is focussed on the development of a comprehensive bio-repository, to enable the development of bio-markers and is studying the molecular mechanisms of deranged androgen signalling in order to better understand how men develop androgen-independent prostate cancer.

Professor Neal is an elected member of Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He is a member of Cancer Research UK Project Grants Committee, medical member of Post Graduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) and a member of Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008, Cancer Sub-panel.

David Neal is a Head of Faculty for the UROLOGY Faculty. The role of a Head of Faculty is to help divide the Faculty (specialty) into Sections (sub-specialty areas), nominate leaders in those areas as Section Heads, and offer ongoing advice on the strategic direction of the service. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.
