Dr John Laffey is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at University college Hospital in Galway, and a Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Galway. His clinical interests include cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia and acute pain medicine acute. His research interests include the pathophysiology of, and development of therapeutic strategies for acute lung injury, and the vascular biology of sepsis. He is a principal investigator at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Sciences at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
