Michael G. Irwin, MB ChB, MD, FRCA, FHKAM, is Associate Professor and Head, Department of Anaesthesiology, University of Hong Kong, Honorary Consultant in Anaesthesia and Administrative Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Queen Mary Hospital. Prof. Irwin received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and President of the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiology, where he is also a member of the education and examination committees and is chief censor. Prof. Irwin has published more than 88 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals and is a regular invited reviewer for eight journals, including Anaesthesiology, Anaesthesia and Analgesia the British Journal of Anaesthesia, and Anaesthesia. He is an editor of the Hong Kong Medical Journal, CPD Anaesthesia (UK), Acta Anaesthesia Taiwanica and Acute Pain and a member of the board of directors of the HKU Medical Faculty Clinical Trials Centre. Prof. Irwin's research interests include anaesthetic pharmacology, acute pain management and cardiac preconditioning.
