Caryl A. Nowson lectures in nutrition in the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences. Professor Nowson is an active researcher on the influence of dietary factors on cardiovascular risk and risk of osteoporosis.

Professor Nowson conducts research on nutrition related to hypertension and bone health. One of her research interests focuses on vitamin D and dietary calcium in Australia and she is studying ways to improve the nutritional status in elderly people. She is also interested in translational research relating to dietary sodium and potassium and consumer education.

She is a Member of the Australia and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society, High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia, Dietitians Association of Australia (as Accredited Practising Dietitian) and the Nutrition Society of Australia.
