Peter Lipsky M.D

Research interests:
Dr Lipsky's current major research interests are B-cell biology, both in normal and autoimmune disease settings, and the generation of the immunoglobulin repertoire.
Dr Lipsky is internationally recognized for his research, particularly his work on T cell-macrophage interactions, the mechanisms of immune cell activation, the role of B cells in autoimmune diseases, and for his role in the development of novel therapeutics for rheumatoid arthritis.

Dr Lipsky is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and The Royal College of Physicians.

He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr Lipsky is Editor-in-Chief of Arthritis Research and Therapy, Nature Clinical Practice Rhuematology and serves on the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals. He is also past Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Immunology (1992-1997).

He has been awarded numerous prizes, including the 2001 Carol Nachman Prize and the 2002 American College of Rheumatology Distinguished Investigator Award. In 2002, the Arthritis Foundation awarded Dr Lipsky the prestigious Lee Howley prize for his contributions, which represent a significant advance in the understanding, treatment and prevention of arthritis and rheumatic diseases.

Head of Faculty: Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology (since 14 December 2005)

Peter Lipsky is a Head of Faculty for the RHEUMATOLOGY & CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY Faculty. The role of a Head of Faculty is to help divide the Faculty (specialty) into Sections (sub-specialty areas), nominate leaders in those areas as Section Heads, and offer ongoing advice on the strategic direction of the service. They are not asked to evaluate articles, although we do, of course, welcome them.
