Donald Milton is working as an associate physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He is Professor at the Department of Work, Environment & Health at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He is also Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Environmental Health at Harvard School of Public Health.

As an occupational and environmental medicine physician-epidemiologist and aerobiologist, his research focuses on asthma; airborne endotoxins and other stimuli for innate immune responses; and airborne infections in indoor environments.

Professor Milton is an Editorial Board member of Indoor Air, International Journal for Indoor Air Quality and Climate, of Applied and Environmental Microbiology and of BMC Public Health.
