Robert Downs, M.D.

Co-Director for Research
Professor of Medicine and Associate Chair of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and is the Director of the VCU Medical Center Program for Osteoporosis and Bone Health

Academic Education:
- M.D. Duke University,
- Internal Medicine training at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and in Endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health, with a special emphasis on calcium related disorders and metabolic bone disease.

Other Positions:
- 1983 - present Member of the faculty of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA.
- Principal investigator in clinical trials which have studied emerging new drugs for the management of osteoporosis,
- Serves on several national advisory panels including:
- The Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry
- Editorial board of the Journal for Clinical Densitometry.

Clinical practice:
- Specialty consultation for the care of patients with osteoporosis and metabolic bone disorders.
