Research Interest:
Genetic analysis of skin cancer. Our research focuses on the genetic characteristics of melanocytic neoplasia with an emphasis on classification, diagnosis, and susceptibility. We use a variety of genomic approaches to identify genes involved in progression and susceptibility to skin cancer. One focus is the development of genetic markers that can be used to distinguish benign from malignant melanocytic neoplasms and detect minimal residual disease. We are also very interested in studying the basis of the increased susceptibility of organ transplant recipients to developing squamous cell carcinoma of the skin.
