For his work in coloprotology, Prof. Nyam is cited in the 2001 International Biography of Achievers. He is an honorary life member of the Indian Association of Coloproctology and in 2000, gave the Harry Bacon Oration.

Prof. Nyam is a member of 13 learned societies and was on the editorial board of the Singapore Medical Journal. He sits on the board of Directors of the Mayo Alumni Association and is currently the President of the Singapore Mayo Alumni.
