The mission of Professor Salamonsen’s research group is to improve women’s reproductive health. Studies aim to improve contraceptive choices for women and to develop strategies to overcome infertility, endometrial bleeding problems and endometriosis.

The group focuses on the biology of the endometrium, particularly as it relates to the process of embryo implantation; thus the work has long-term implications for fertility and infertility. Other studies are examining the remodelling of the uterus, relating to abnormal uterine bleeding and also uterine cancer. Close collaborations with clinical colleagues ensures the clinical relevance of the work in the laboratory.

The laboratory uses state of the art techniques to address these issues including cell culture, immunohistology, enzyme assays, in vivo mouse models (uterine administration of morpholino antisense oligos, models for menstruation and long-term progestin action) laser capture microdissection, gene array analysis, proteomic analyses.

Any competing interests declared are displayed with individual evaluations.
