Research interests:
His clinical research activities include the diagnosis and management of localized and advanced prostate cancer including hormone refractory disease. He has published clinical research in the early detection of prostate cancer including biopsy techniques and ultrasound detection of prostate cancer. He has a wide experience in the clinical and management of both superficial and invasive bladder cancer, including surgical techniques for orthotopic bladder substitution. He has also performed clinical research and published articles on the management of patients with penile and testicular cancer.
Finally, he has researched areas of quality of life as it pertains to the impact of treatment of patients with urologic cancers.

Dr Cookson is currently a member of the American Urologic Association’s Practice Cancer Guidelines Committee and the American Board of Urology/American Urologic Association Examination Committee. He is a reviewer for the numerous journals including the Journal of Urology where he is a Society of Urologic Oncology's Specialty Editor, Urology and Cancer.
