Argye Hillis
Department of Neurology, Johns Hopkins Medical Institute, United States of America
Research interests:
Professor Hillis' research aims to improve understanding how language functions and spatial maps are represented in the brain, and how understanding these processes can contribute to evaluation and treatment of stroke and dementia. The primary methodology she uses to localize cognitive processes and representations combines detailed cognitive testing with magnetic resonance perfusion imaging and diffusion imaging in hyperacute stroke, to determine areas of the brain essential for specific cognitive functions before reorganization or recovery. This research has provided insights into neural substrates underlying reading, naming, spelling, speech articulation, and spatial attention.
