Jeroen Douwes is Associate Director of the Centre for Public Health Research at Massey University in Wellington. The Centre for Public Health Research covers all aspects of public health research, but with a focus on non-communicable diseases (respiratory disease, cancer, and diabetes), occupational and environmental health, socio-economic determinants of health, Maori health and Pacific health research.

Professor Douwes' research program focuses on causation, mechanisms and prevention of asthma. In particular, it involves studies in children and adults focusing on protective and risk factors associated with the development of allergies and asthma, and the role of non-allergic airway inflammation in asthma.
