Wiebke Arlt

Wiebke Arlt is Professor of Medicine and a Medical Research Council (MRC) Senior Clinical Fellow at the University of BirminghamShe is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Department of Medicine, University Hospital, Birmingham.

Professor Arlt’s main research focuses on the pre-receptor regulation of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) biosynthesis, metabolism and action. Her particular interests are exploring the impact of intracellular redox potential regulation on DHEA biosynthesis, the tissue-specific metabolism and action of DHEA in target tissues and the regulation of DHEA bioavailability by DHEA sulfotransferase (SULT2A1). Her clinical research interests include adrenal, pituitary and reproductive endocrinology, in particular PCOS, CAH and the endocrinology of severe stress.
