Eugenio Picano is Senior Medical Researcher for the Italian National Research Council. He is Director of the Echocardiographic Laboratory at the Institute of Clinical Physiology in Pisa and Scientific Director of the Montevergine Cardiology Clinic in Mercogliano, Italy.

He has given internationally recognized pioneering contributions to the fields of ultrasonic tissue characterization of atherosclerotic plaque and stress echocardiography for the non-invasive diagnosis of coronary artery disease. His current research interests include developments of new practice models to improve economic, social and biological sustainability of medical imaging.

Professor Picano is founder and Editor-in-Chief of the BioMed Central journal, Cardiovascular Ultrasound.
